  • Hiking Mount Rwenzori

Day 1 — Arrival and transfer to the hotel for overnight

On arrival at Entebbe international airport, you’re gladly received by our company guide who will drive you to your hotel either in Entebbe town or Kampala.

Day 2 — Travel from Kampala to Rwenzori Mountain

Start the day by travelling to the Rwenzori Mountains and stop and take in a visit to the Equator that runs through Uganda. It’s marvellous to have pictures taken underneath the Equator Sign.

Generally, people tend to carry out nonscientific experiments, most of them are manipulated illusions and not authentic, but fun to watch.

There are also Curio and Souvenir Shops that you can visit. A couple of them have their wares nicely displayed and make it easier to shop for crafts, including of course the Equator T-Shirt that is an optional buy for many visitors and others.

Day 3 — Hike from Nyakalengija (1615m) to Nyabitaba Hut (2651m)

After breakfast, begin the tour starting at Nyakalengija and hike to Nyabitaba Hut. This hike normally lasts about 5 hours. This hike goes through the banana plantations along the steep slopes past the forest.

Day 4 — Hike from Nyabitaba Hut to John Matte Hut (3505m)

This is the lengthiest hike running for about 7 hours from the Nyabitaba hut up to John Matte Hut. This trail will take you through the verdant hills across river Bujuku on the Kurt Shafer Bridge which was constructed in 1989. The trail between the bridge and Nyamileju becomes steeper and rocky as you get close to the moorland zone. While having lunch at Nyamileju, you will be able to see Mount Speke and Mount Stanley. Continue hiking following river Bujuku and proceed past the heather forest.

Day 5 — Hike from John Matte Hut to Bujuku Hut (3962m)

This day’s hike starts from John Matte Hut and goes past Lake Bujuku with a splendid background of Mount Baker, Mt. Speke and Mt. Stanley.

It’s important to note that; in order to reach Mount Speke, it normally requires you 2 nights stay at Bujuku hut because it is the base of reaching there. But if you wish to trek to the highest peak – the Margherita on Mount Stanley at 5109 meters, you will have to track past the Elena Hut at 4551 meters which are approximately 2 km. This expedition is recommended for those who are physically well and experienced hikers.

Day 6 — Hike from Bujuku Hut to Kitandara Hut (4023m)

Proceed with this trail from Bujuku Hut and hike to Scoot Elliot Pass which is 4372 meters and descend into the Kitandara Lakes.

Day 7 — Hike from Kitandara Hut to Guy Yeoman Hut (3505m)

This 5 hours walk begins from Kitandara Hut to Guy Yeoman Hut stretching from the bottom of Mount Baker to the verdant Field Pass which is at 4282 meters. This offers you a chance to view the Congo plus Mount Stanley to the north. This trail leads down into the Bujongolo Cave which is 3720 meters.

Day 8 — Sloping from Guy Yeoman Hut to Nyakalengija

This trail takes 5 hours descending from the Guy Yeoman Hut down to the Nyabitaba Hut.

Day 9 — Transfer to Nyabitaba

On day 9, you will proceed to Nyakalengija from Nyabitaba Hut and this slope takes 3 hours of the expedition.

Day 10 — Travel from Nyakalengija trail to Kampala

You will descend the mountain and drive back to the capital Kampala taking Kasese-Fort Portal-Kampala route.

Along the way, enjoy the magnificent sceneries of the diverse landscapes and any interesting views.
